Abstract

Title:
Supply of electric energy from renewable sources in a region
Abstract:
The aim of the thesis is to analyse the potential of electricity generation from renewable energy sources in Gorenjska region. The introduction describes how electric energy can be generated from solar, wind and biomass. The characteristics of renewable energy plants are given. Through the analysis of daily, weekly and annual electric energy consumption in Slovenia, the consumption for Gorenjska is estimated by scaling. The indicative renewable electric energy generation capacity is calculated by averaging the weather data of the three Gorenjska sites and the efficiencies of the wind farm (Enercon E-70 E4 2.300), the commercial solar module (Enercon E-70 E4 2.300) and the biomass power plant. The results are then compared with the estimated consumption of the Gorenjska region. We find out that it is not feasible to cover all electric energy consumption with just one type of power plant due to spatial or environmental factors and energy storage challenges. We conclude that the Gorenjska region should rely on biomass energy rather than wind and solar energy, but at the moment it is not feasible to cover the consumption by renewable sources only.
