In my thesis, I optimized the testing method for the impact of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) on the corrosion of copper and lead. I focused on the impact of the concentration of VOCs and the impact of the volume of the reaction vessel. During the testing, I used acetic acid which is one of the most corrosive VOS indoors, and pentanal which enables the prediction of aldehydes' impact on corrosion. With the results of the tests for acetic acid and pentanal, I predicted the impact of VOCs mixtures on corrosion. Using gas chromatography I analyzed the compositions of VOCs mixtures used for scenting spaces.
