Abstract
This paper is part of a study to complete the cycle Doctoral School, in the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology, at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. Before going into the context of the work, I will present, in general terms, the purpose and objectives of this study, as well as its methodology and structure, alongside the difficulties encountered. The focus of my study is Kosovo's cultural heritage, with an emphasis on the country's approach to managing, presenting and protecting this heritage. The protection of cultural heritage is of great importance for Kosovars and Kosovo as a new state. Cultural heritage is a bridge that can be used to build strong cultural relations in Europe and in the world. Specific cultural heritage sites in Kosovo, such as cult objects, museums and the city of Prishtina, are used as case studies. In addition, relevant institutions involved in the management of cultural heritage in Kosovo are examined; this research looks at the plans of each institution, their strategic policies, the law on cultural heritage, sustainable development, communication and the use of cultural values. This study is important for several reasons, one of the most important being the cognitive value of cultural heritage. Cultural heritage is becoming increasingly popular and growing day by day; it is an interesting field of research that includes numerous aspects related to the past. In Kosovo, there is a certain period of cultural heritage that has not been represented as well as it deserves to be. My study will make a modest contribution to thinking about the state of Kosovo’s cultural heritage. This pertains to all citizens of the country, regardless of their ethnicity. Another reason to deal with cultural heritage is to increase our knowledge of Kosovo's cultural heritage, to evaluate its meaning and role, as well as the processes of change in different eras, nationalism and myths based on cultural heritage and neighbourly relations.
