In my diploma we dealt with biotechnology companies in Slovenia. We first defined biotechnology, outlined its development and placed biotechnology in the context of modern industrial development, including through the Kondratiev Waves theory. We presented the general characteristics of locating biotechnology companies around the world and with the help of literature distinguished several types of biotechnology companies. Several phases in registering Slovene biotechnology companies had been recorded: in the first phase, we registered and located companies with Standard Classification of Activity M72.110 (Biotechnology research and development), in the second phase, the companies were registered and located using the SICRIS database, and then the two lists were merged. The overall list consists of 85 companies that appeared in at least one of the two lists. Based on the cartographic presentation of companies, five areas of biotechnological entrepreneurship in Slovenia have been identified (the wider Ljubljana region, the Ajdovska-Goriška region, the Maribor region, the Celje region, and the Murska Sobota region). With a case study, we presented the high-tech biotechnology company JAFRAL from Ljubljana. As the number of companies that are supposed to be involved in biotechnology in Slovenia is certainly too high, and as some of the registered companies are probably not involved in this activity at all, and cannot be excluded from the lists because they are too arbitrary, we have proposed in the conclusion the creation of a questionnaire for companies in order to increase the accuracy of any further research.
