The thesis focuses on one of the less researched novel genres, the crime novel. I explored the development of the crime novel in general and specifically on our grounds. Crime novels are still seen as a trivial genre, so not many theories exist. I was especially interested in the roles women play in the world of crime novels, so I primarily focused on women as crime novel authors, Maja Novak in Slovenia and Agatha Christie generally, and as literary figures in the novels Cimre (1995) and Murder on the Orient Express (1934). Rebeka, the main inspector in Cimre, and Hercule Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express, alongside all of the other featured women were compared. I discovered that women in the novels have quite a few similar personality traits but some kind of a traditional women figure in crime novels does not exist.
