Abstract

Title:Blade wear on a disc mower at different mower loads
Abstract:
As part of the thesis, we investigated the effects on blade wear on a disc mower. We included blades from four different manufacturers in the experiment and found differences in pin wear. We used blades from Krone, Prillinger, Granit and Gerpol. Differences in pin wear between manufacturers are less than 1%. The results of the blade wear were obtained by weighing the blades before and after the experiment, and by visual inspection of the pin, we estimated that the blades on the lower half wear much more than on the upper half. We have found that the blades wear much more when cutting straw than when cutting grass. The blades also wear more quickly towards the end of the cutting ridge. The blades retreat inside the disc when they hit an obstacle, causing damage on both sides. We also analysed the quality of mowing with worn blades. In addition to a clean cut, the main milestone of mowing was to minimise the amount of soil in the cut grass. The new, sharper blades cut much better than the blades that had already cut 10 ha of grass, as less grass was left uncut.
