The article provides a brief overview of the genitive of negation (replacing the accusative in objects of negated actions). Taking into consideration the questions of the users of the ISJ ZRC SAZU Language Counselling as well as certain user-initiated actions »in defence of genitive of negation« in social media, it can be said that questions about proper use constantly arise in relation to the factors accompanying the basic rule of its use. Of these factors, three will be dealt with in detail: the influence of negation upon the infinitive complement or on the parts of the sentence not representing the object of the negated action; the negation not of the action or with the action in ellipsis; negation in the passive voice vs. constructions with se verbs denoting a general non-expressed subject. Lastly, the possibility of hypercorrection will be pointed out.
