The paper presents a dialect or provincially coloured language in different linguistic categories. In the first part, the use and function of various social types of language will be discussed in the literary texts of contemporary Slovene authors (e.g. Čater). In the second part, dialect speech in public will be observed – attempts at dialect in the public speech of linguists who lecture about dialect in their own dialect (e.g. Weiss, Tivadar).
