The undergraduate thesis deals with a public funding system of audiovisual (AV) and film production in Slovenia. It analyzes legal regulations and current public system of sector’s funding and tries to justify why it is necessary to understand AV production simultaneously as part of cultural creative and economic sector. The basis for the discussed theme is current legislature put in order, specifically the Slovenian Film Centre Public Agency Act, some other acts and various European, domestic studies and reports about institutional organization of AV sector. The sector is in a need of an overall reform and the first step towards this direction is the recognition of this need by the government and decision makers. The political will and political interest to make a change is crucial. The new model and implementation of public AV and Film Cultural Policy needs to be designed in cooperation with experts of AV and film field. New AV and film policy needs to follow so called umbrella law, which will regulate AV sector as a whole. At the same time a diversified system of public funding of AV production needs to be implemented and in accordance with that financial support of AV sector needs to be understood as an investment rather than a country’s expense. Towards the end I try to conclude the thesis with examples of good practices of public funding of AV sector from abroad and how we can successfully introduce and implement them into the field of domestic AV and film sector.
