The master thesis is made of three parts. The first part, which represents the introduction, considers the process safety and safety culture. The process safety development, which is becoming more complex and important with the industry development, is briefly presented. Further on, specific terms used in the field of risk assessment and process safety are explained. Moreover, safety culture and atmosphere are described in short as well the advantages and levels of the safety culture.
The second part of the thesis describes the methods for risk assessment. The methods for risk assessment form an integral part of the process safety in general. The field is extremely complex, since the processes in the industry have exceptionally developed and increased. Development in the industrial sector constantly increases the manufacturing complexity and diversity. The risk management process is also described. This process enables a systematic approach to the assessment. There are also some definitions of dangers and risks. The main focus is on the methods for risks identification. The legislation referring to the process safety is described, providing for minimum frameworks for ensuring safety. The legislation also imposes the risks to be assessed, monitored, eliminated or decreased.
The third, last part of the thesis contains criteria for selection of an appropriate method. Finally, conclusions and findings in the field of methods for risk assessment are presented.
