Phraseology is a language discipline whose subject of research are fixed expressions. In the scientific literature, we find various terms for the term fixed expressions. Idioms, phrasal verbs, set phrase, idiomatic phrase, multi-word expression and phraseological units, which is also the most frequently used term in the literature.
Phraseological units are used on a daily basis. Often we are not even aware of their use. They can be found in books, radio and other media. By using phraseological units, text creators engage the reader, making the language more interesting. Permanent phraseological units often replace longer sentences, as we can use phraseological units to say things faster, shorter and clearer.
The master's thesis deals with the use of phraseological units in the text type horoscope. Analysed were the annual horoscopes of the women's magazine "Cosmopolitan", namely its electronic version Cosmopolitan.de. Using the dictionaries Redesarten-Index.de and Wörterbuch der deutschen Idiomatik from Duden, the phrases were checked and analysed.
The results showed that phraseological units in the text type horoscope appear often. In most cases, their meaning is not literal and it is necessary to know the transferred meaning.
