Abstract

Title:
The meaning of practical training in graphic professions
Abstract:
Practical education is defined as a necessary and unavoidable learning process, claim numerous scientists from various professional fields, therefore it should according to their own experiences represent an opportunity to upgrade theoretical knowledge. This process is especially important in technical professions in which the field graphic and media technology is included. Compulsory internship is a part of the curriculum from this exact field in the third year of our faculty. To answer the question of whether its purpose of having a compulsory internship was achieved at our faculty, an interview with a mentor in the company where my internship has taken place, an interview with a coordinator of practical training in our faculty, and a survey among former and current students of our faculty was conducted and my own findings from practical experience are added. Research has shown that attitudes towards practital training are mixed over the amount of practical education and the connection between the graphic arts industry and tertiary education in the field of graphic sciences. Research findings can form the basis for further studies, comparisons and possible improvements.
