Bela Krajina is a region in southeastern Slovenia. The green landscape between Gorjanci, Kočevski Rog and river Kolpa offers visitors peace, relaxation and recreation. In this paper we discuss river-based tourism in Bela Krajina, which has been increasing in the past few years. River-based tourism is in scientific writings very rarely discussed, so in this paper I tried to represent its characteristics and its potential for further development in the region. Presented subjects are natural and social features of the region, swimming zones of the river Kolpa and accommodation facilities, including tourist visits in Bela Krajina. The increasing number of camps next to Kolpa are an important part of tourist offer of Bela krajina. Characteristics of the tourists were found out with a survey, which took place in two camps. At the very end I presented possibilities for further development of river-based tourism in Bela Krajina.
