Abstract

Title:Estimating a strategy for usage of electric motor in a hybrid transmission system for a minimum fuel consumption
Abstract:
In this thesis, an electric motor start-up strategy was defined that is based on the standardised WLTC driving cycle. First, the rolling resistances were calculated and the required wheel torque was determined. As the vehicle has a hybrid transmission, it was necessary to determine when to get the required torque from the electric part of the transmission and when from the internal combustion engine. The decision taken to engage the electric motor was linked to the acceleration at a given moment and the torque gradient on the electric motor. Based on the strategy, three driving modes A, B and C with different gradient levels were determined. The required angular velocity data was calculated based on the accelerator pedal and the instantaneous fuel consumption over the WLTC driving cycle was calculated using the BSFC graph. By comparing the fuel consumption data, a suitable solution for the hybrid transmission of the vehicle was given.
