Abstract

Title:DEVELOPMENT OF AUTONOMOUS SHIPS
Abstract:
In the diploma work development of autonomous ships, we have examined the current state of the development of autonomous ships. In this we included the advantages that autonomous ships promise, the advanced systems they will have to use, what changes they bring in construction, and also the current disadvantages they face in today’s development. We have mentioned the technological and mechanical barriers, as well as the legal disputes that autonomous ships face in the current maritime legislation. The aim of this paper was to explore the development of autonomous ships to date and answer questions about their strengths, weaknesses and how they affect seafarers ’jobs in the future. Although autonomous ships promise a better future for maritime transport, they currently also have weaknesses and limitations that will need to be addressed over time. We can also expect changes in maritime legislation to make it easier for autonomous ships to be defined and operate within maritime laws. However, although the autonomy of ships is developing rapidly, we should not expect a complete abandonment of the ship's crew, at least not in the near future. We can still expect a large number of jobs for seafarers, either on ordinary manned ships or in the control centers of autonomous ships.
