Abstract
'well-being' oseb.

Title:Water as therapeutic medium : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: Knowledge of the healing power of water is as old as humanity. Activities in the aquatic environment have a positive effect on the psychophysical condition of people of all ages. Water is used as a therapeutic medium in the processes of occupational therapy and physiotherapy. Purpose: To study the therapeutic effects of water on humans and to determine the effectiveness of water as a medium in rehabilitation. We were interested in the indications for the involvement of people in water activities and the impact of the use of the medium on the implementation of daily activities and the well-being of people. Methods: In the diploma work, a systematic review of literature was used. An optional or advanced search for fully available articles was used. Fourteen scientific and professional articles were included in the final analysis. Results: The results of the literature review indicate that water and activities in the aquatic environment improve the general well-being of people. Social functions and daily activity skills have improved. Due to the physical characteristics of hydrodynamics that improve physiological processes and motoric functions, water exercise is a better alternative than land-based exercise to strengthen and maintain health. Discussion and conclusion: Occupational therapists choose an aquatic environment to carry out activities when it is stimulating for the person. Through purposeful and preparatory activities in water, they influence the development/improvement of skills important for implementing narrower and broader daily activities. Halliwick’s concept of swimming, the Ai Chi method, water activities, swimming, walking in water and playing games have proven to be the most effective strategies. Water is an excellent medium for achieving the maximum level of exercise. For some individuals with reduced abilities, it is the only environment to perform activities that include active movement.
