The master's thesis presents the prehistoric settlement in Metlika. It concentrates on the
excavations in the historic town centre, which took place in 1991. These were centred on the
Castle courtyard, Trg svobode (Freedom Square) and Mestni trg (Town square). Two phases of
settlement were discovered, which the thesis considers in relation to the previously known
settlement on the Veselica hill and the cemetery. The excavations also uncovered the remains
of dwellings, the remains of which have been used in their putative reconstruction. In addition
to the corpus of pottery, fieldwork also recovered organic remains that have been the subject of
archeobotanical analysis.
