In this graduate paper, the procedure of analysis of photo usage on social media, including the survey research is presented. The development through history from the first photograph taken and how photography continues to evolve to the present day, when it is expanded to such an extent that each smartphone has a built-in camera is described.
The process of art development, to its digitalization and accessibility of those published photographs all over the world, to all with internet access is described thoroughly.
The applications, that are used on social networks used for photo sharing have been presented, as well as their purpose for users. The influence of their existence and the influence of various photos used on these applications by users to share in the world, is described.
Furthermore, the applications, free and paid ones, that are made for editing photos on smartphones and computers, which we later upload on social networks, have been listed.
The profiles of Instagram users, that post original, processed and processed photos with a natural look, have been presented for easier visual presentation of photo diversity.
In the end, the survey was used to analyse what kind of photography people like more, edited and manipulated or natural photography without retouching. It was found out which factors also influence the choice of a certain type of photography (gender, age, activity on social networks ...) and how big the difference in the answers is.
Graphs and bar charts were used to show the differentiation and matching of responses in the two applications we used in the survey - Instagram and Facebook.
