Abstract
Magistrsko delo obravnava krajevna imena rastlinskega izvora v Posavju v povezavi z lokalno prisotnimi rastlinami. Ker mnoge, v sestojih manj pogoste vrste, niso evidentirane v javnih evidencah, smo opravili tudi terenski ogled in identifikacijo s toponimi povezanih rastlin v vseh obravnavanih krajih.

Title:Toponyms of plant origin in the Posavje region: correlation between place names and the presence of plants
Abstract:
The master thesis focuses on place names that originate from plant names (so-called phyto-toponyms) in the Posavje region and their relation to locally growing plants. Potential plant-related toponyms were listed from the map. We examined historical sources to analyse the past vegetation, and linguistic sources to examine which origins of toponyms are already known. At the Slovenian Online Forest Data Viewer by the Slovenian Forest Service, we looked up the current share of plant species in each area. To document the presence of plant species, unregistered in public records, a field visit was conducted in all places. The list of toponyms included more than 70 place names. For better clarity, the toponyms were categorised according to 24 characteristic plant species. In the Posavje region, about one fifth of all toponyms probably originates from plant names. In two thirds of the covered toponyms, the naming plant species grows in the place itself or in its vicinity. Only in one third of the places, this species was not detected locally. The naming plant species are mostly wild tree species, but in part there are also fruit and shrub species. The most common naming species are birch, common oak, turkey oak, cherry, dogwood, hazel and walnut. In some cases, the plant species have already become a part of the place identity; the inhabitants know them well and attach a certain importance to them. In other places, the potential exists for the development of an identity that would be related to the plant origin of the toponym.
