Abstract

Title:Topography of Škocjan and its Surroundings
Abstract:
Škocjan and its surroundings represent one of the most interesting and complex regions in Slovenia, where traces of human activity from different periods have been preserved. Traces in the landscape range from »ordinary« archaeological sites such as castles, settlements, mounds, to »less visible« traces of human activity in space such as clearance cairns, field boundaries, lime kilns, stone walls, cultural terraces, fields with ridge and furrow (Mlekuž 2013, 2). In the thesis, the author tries to present the Škocjan space through time. The central part of the thesis is the catalog of sites, which consists of 68 sites, and the chapter about field surveys, where, together with the interpretation of ALS, field photographs of selected areas are presented.

Keywords:Karst, Škocjan, hillforts, ALS, prehistory, Roman period, Middle Age
