In recent years, a huge increase in content related to hiking and mountaineering can be seen on social media: more and more people are sharing photos and descriptions of conquered peaks, hashtags on mountaineering are emerging, networking groups are forming, connecting people with the same interests and leisure activities related to mountaineering.
I wanted to determine whether the use of social media has any impact on visiting the mountains among Slovenes, so I decided to conduct a survey to obtain data that would provide me with an answer this question and help me discover possible correlations between visiting the mountains and social media.
In the first part of the final seminar paper, I focus on explaining the topic, the terms used and lastly the history and prevalence of hiking and mountaineering among Slovenes, as well as the use of social media. In the second part, I present and explain the procedure and results of the survey, which we conducted at various locations across Slovenian mountains.
