This undergraduate thesis deals with Slavic mythology within the novel The Holy Battle by the Slovenian author Vlado Žabot. The aim of the thesis is to determine the relationship between mythology and the story of the novel. The mythological elements that appear in the narrative will also be identified. Slavic mythology does not have many reliable sources, as it is rather poorly preserved. Various attempts to reconstruct Slavic mythological space, which are in line with the motives and idea of the novel, will help to decipher the symbols. The myth of the holy battle will be carefully compared to its parallel in the novel. We will try to assign representatives to the gods Perun and Veles who are the main actors in the epic duel. At the end of the work, there is a short reflection on the message and the content weight of the novel, which indicates a call for demythologization of history and society.
