Abstract

Title:Young people on farms in the Municipality of Gornji Grad
Abstract:
In the diploma work we studied the structural characteristics of farms in the Municipality of Gornji Grad, with an emphasis on young people under 40 years. Supplementary activities on the farm play a key role in finding an additional source of income, which was also found in a survey of 50 young people coming from the farm. Despite the fact that young people tend to look for new development opportunities, they face many obstacles, mainly related to irregular incomes and the consequent lack of finances, working on a farm is often underestimated. In order to ensure succession on the farm in the future and to encourage young people more to decide for farming, the Rural Development Program also provides financial assistance for young farmers, which has a greater positive effect on the desire to take over the farm. Continuing the tradition of farming, respect and attachment to the farm are certainly those factors that are still strongly present in most surveyed farm families. With the help of a survey, we found that the education of young people on farms is increasing, which has a significant impact on their employment interests. Better educated young people are more likely to opt for employment outside agriculture, which should enable a higher and a more regular income. Decisions that are not necessarily focused on agricultural activity also stem from the growing economic independence of young people.
