Abstract

Title:Influence of SARS-CoV-2 epidemic on development of digital youth work in Slovenia
Abstract:
Digital youth work is one of the branches of youth work. Its core is the use as well as addressing digital technology and media as tools, activities or content with the purpose of inclusion, non-formal education of the young people and reducing social differences between them. The beginnings of digital youth work can be traced back to a decade ago, however, in the recent years this field begun to develop more concretely. While many examples of this practice can be found abroad, there was very little talk of it until the epidemic of coronavirus in Slovenia began. The epidemic has shaken both our everyday life as well as the youth sector. It turned out to be an important turning point for the development of digital youth work. I conducted quantitative research with organizations that carried out youth work during the epidemic, since most of the participants decided on either implementing digital youth work or increasing the scope of it during that time. The use of technical tools as well as various applications and platforms was on the rise as organizations adapted their work in the fields of human resources, financial resources and at the same time created new projects in response to the emerging needs of user groups and others. While providers rate their digital competences as better than they did before the epidemic, there is a great need for additional training. They believe that the interest of young people is the guide for further implementation of digital youth work, but also estimate that the amount of financial resources, capabilities and interest of staff are important factors in need of additional support as well.
