Abstract

Title:Barbo's Palace on Gosposka street
Abstract:
The thesis is focused on the art-historical analysis of Barbo's Palace, which is located at Gosposka ulica 3 street in Ljubljana city centre. It is based on a review of existing literature, supplemented by older plans from archives and accompanying written material. The palace was built for the eminent nobleman Jobst Weikhard count Barbo-Waxenstein. It is important not only because it was one of the few building at that time built almost entirely a new but also because it is one of the most characteristic representatives of the Baroque style of the 1750s in Ljubljana. Palace was built between 1749 and 1752 and was designed by the Vienna-educated architect Matija Perski (Matthias Persky). The purpose of the thesis is a stylistic analysis of the exterior and interior of Barbo’s Palace and the discussion of the architect’s models. By comparing the palace with other buildings by the same architect, it was possible to place our palace in the oeuvre of Matija Perski.
