Abstract

Title:Perception of Seismic Risk Among Residents Along the San Andreas Fault
Abstract:
The San Andreas Fault represents the most seismic active area in the United States in state of California with population of more than 39 million. Tectonic plates have been active for more than 28 million years. The area represents great seismic threat to the local population which settled here in the late 18th century. The final thesis presents historical activity of the lithospheric tectonic plates in the seismic active area and the threat to people. In the first part, we outline tectonic activity of the lithospheric plates and their structure in the Earth’s crust. The second part presents the demographic characteristics of California with an emphasis on the response of the population to seismic hazards, such as earthquake construction for earthquake protection and earthquake forecasting.
