Abstract

Title:Hyperproduction of an artwork
Abstract:
In my diploma thesis, I am trying to present the development of my project, which I started two years ago. The project's main characteristic is that the art pieces are not crafted by hand; but rather they are created with specially designed machines, which I designed and made myself for this purpose. Each machine with its own shape dictates the final shape of the piece. I believed that the process of hyperproduction will help me create a perfect art piece, the shape and the surface of which would be better than all others. This shape and surface, both of which are created by the machines, had become my fetish, making me produce more. Because of the large numbers of pieces that I produced, all the little details, which made each piece unique, became more and more alike; this became obvious in the collection that I set up at the semestral exhibition. The collection revealed the similarities and blurred the differences between the objects, making me realize that the perfect piece I was looking for did not exist. However, this did not mean the end of my project but rather a new beginning and new questions that I am posing with the exhibition Premišljevanja - postavitev #2, which was conceptually diametral as opposed to the semestral one with the intention to expose the problem of uniqueness of an artwork in the mass of hyperproduced works. Participating viewer, who had to walk over pieces on the floor in order to see ones on the shelves, was introduced into the work to raise question of value of each individual piece.
