Metamorfna bitja

V diplomskem delu se ukvarjam s problematiko izkoriščanja nečloveških živali. Te povezujem v medvrstne biološke hibride, ki sem jih poimenovala Metamorfna bitja. Upodobljene živali so izkoriščane za razne industrije ali pa so naši ljubljenčki. Zanima me, kako – če sploh – vplivajo hibridizacije teh živali na normalizirano speciesistično percepcijo. Speciesizem je praksa ravnanja s pripadniki ene vrste kot moralno pomembnejše od drugih kot tudi prepričanje, da je tako ravnanje upravičeno. V teoretičnem delu diplomske naloge pišem o glini in keramiki, njuni zgodovini in fizičnih lastnostih. Dotaknem se tudi pomembnega obdobja, ko se je keramika ločila od obrti, in njene vloge v umetnosti. Osnovna ideja mojega diplomskega dela sta raziskovanje in eksperimentiranje z glino. Zanima me, ali skrčki raznih glin pri mešanju vplivajo na sušenje in žganje gline. Opisujem postopke izdelave hibridov, votlenje, sušenje, krčenje, žganje in nastale napake in razpoke.

• Title: Metamorphic creatures

Abstract

In my diploma thesis I'm dealing with exploitation of non-human animals. I connect them into biological interspecies hybrids, which I've named Metamorphic beings. The depicted animals are exploited for all kinds of industries or they are our pets. I'm intereseted in how – if even – these animal hybrids affect normalised speciesist perception. Speciesism is the practice of treating members of one species as morally more important than others, and it's also the belief that this practice is justified. In the theoretical part of the thesis I'm writing about clay, ceramics, their history and physical features. I also describe an important period of when ceramics was no longer only a craft but had an important part in fine art. The basic idea of the thesis is exploration and experimentation with clay. I'm intereseted if clay shrinkage while mixing different clays with different characteristics affects the drying and firing process. I'm also describing the procedure making the hybrids, emptying, drying, firing and the cracking and mistakes that occured.
