Saints Cyril and Methodius, brothers from Thessaloniki who lived in the 9th century, have greatly contributed to Christianity as well as the cultural development of Slavs. They operated in time before the Great Schism when the Church had not yet been divided although differences were already present. Their work, then, contributed not only to the growth of faith and development of Slavic literature, but also helped to form connections between Eastern and Western Christian tradition.
The following thesis covers the work of Sts. Cyril and Methodius in context of the time and space in which they operated. Special attention is paid to the polemics surrounding their work as well as its short- and long-term consequences.
