Abstract

Title:Ecocriticism in science fiction
Abstract:
In my master's thesis I focus on ecocriticism as shown in selected science fiction works from Slovenian and world literature. The theoretical and philosophical basis for my thesis is Adorno's theory of identity of nonidentity with the help of which I analyse the main themes – man's attitude towards nonhuman animals, aliens, robots, other people and the environment – based on man's distance between him and nature. My main suppositions are that because of the saturation of science fiction with technology and science this particular genre is excellent for showing the difference between identity and nonidentity and that in this contacts with the Other lies the paradoxical attitude of the human being towards the world, which made the ecological crisis possible.
