With the world digitizing itself in an ever-increasing pace, more and more files tend to be stored on digital media. Since these are liable to failures and data losses, there has been a surge in the number of services providing cloud data storage. Unfortunately, the source code of their solutions is usually not accessible to the general public; as a result, many people tend to distrust such services. To alleviate this problem, we developed an open-source system called mnimidamon that enables the users to organize their computers into file backup groups and thus themselves create "clouds" to store backups of their files. In this way, the users maintain control over their files and do not have to entrust it to an external provider. During the development of our system, we did not restrict ourselves just to the problem of creating backups, but we also tried our best to ensure a simple setup and a pleasant user experience.
