Abstract

Title:COVID-19 pandemic and personal protective equipment in healthcare
Abstract:
We live in a time when wearing masks has become very common in daily life. The pandemic COVID-19 is due to the rapid spread of the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which has also affected the healthcare system in Slovenia due to the rapid increase in the number of patients. Healthcare professions are among the most risky in terms of exposure to infections. Therefore, the proper use of personal protective equipment is very important when performing these professions. The personal protective equipment that a particular health care professional needs depends on their area of work. Those who work with infected individuals need a high level of virus protection. This includes medical staff in the department COVID-19 at Sevnica Health Center, for the purpose of the diploma work we looked at their working conditions and conducted an interview with them. In their work, they use all the protective equipment mentioned in the recommendations of National Institute of Public Health in Slovenia. In addition to the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, they also take care of proper undressing and dressing. In this way they reduce the possibility of transmission of infections from patients to medical staff and also among the staff themselves. Personal protective equipment also partially hinders them.
