Abstract

Title:The impact of the size of the observed surface on the evaluation of color and color differences
Abstract:
Color perception is the result of the action of major factors. Regulations implemented by the International Commission on Lighting (CIE) help us understand how external factors affect the interpretation of our visual organs. Numerical properties of colors depend on the size of the surfaces of the observed sample, as well as the properties in the settings of the machinery used. The bachelor’s thesis researches how these factors affect the evaluation of colors and color differences. The purpose of the study was to determine how large color differences occur in absolute terms when using different large apertures and what results of color differences between two samples occur using different apertures in what are the deviations of results in different color tones. The thesis consists of a theoretical part in which the past research in the field of color metrics was summarized and of the practical part where our assumptions were researched by measuring samples and calculating the numerical properties of the observed samples. The first part of the research revealed what color differences occur when measuring the same sample using different large measuring openings. In the second part of the research, two different samples were measured with different sizes of apertures which were used to calculate the color differences and their percentage using different sizes of apertures. The numerical analysis of the experimental part in both parts showed minimal differences in the results obtained with different sizes of apertures. The obtained values of color differences showed that the human eye would very likely not detect these differences. The thesis is confirmed in the previous research and represents an interesting starting point for research in which more extreme protection conditions would play a key role in terms of the use of settings in hardware components.
