Abstract

Title:Consumer behavior during the coronavirus epidemic
Abstract:
In the Bachelor thesis titled "Consumer behavior during the coronavirus epidemic", I analyzed consumer behavior in a crisis situation when the consumer has to adjust its consumption behavior due to external constraints. The aim of the paper was to present the changes in its behavior during the coronavirus epidemic and to analyze the data from mobility reports. Through the analysis of the economic consequences of the corona crisis and the analysis of changes in people's consumer habits during the epidemic, I answered my research questions. The questions were regarding the impact of the crisis on the economy and individuals, main consumer habits before the crisis, the adjustment of individuals' consumption habits due to external constraints and the long-term effects of the crisis on consumer behavior. The research method was the analysis of literature and existing databases with the program R. I focused on events in the European Union and especially in Slovenia. With mobility reports I also observed events in Sweden and Austria in more detail. The results show that the new coronavirus pandemic has severely affected the functioning of the economy and consumer behavior. Due to the situation, a large part of economic activity operated on a reduced scale or in an adapted manner. Consumers have changed the level of demand for different products due to measures to limit the spread of the virus and general uncertainty. Of great importance during the coronavirus epidemic was the web, which helped with the implementation of work and learning processes, socialization, shopping, etc. The impact of the pandemic, measures and changes in consumer behavior are also visible in mobility reports. To conclude, the pandemic had severely disrupted the normal functioning of the economy and caused changes in consumer behavior. Some will disappear after the end of the current situation, and for some the effect will be noticeable even after the end of the pandemic and the removal of restrictions.
