This thesis deals with the establishment and development of the first grammar school in Celje. Its beginnings date back more than two hundred years, to the 19th century. The citizens of Celje, together with Franz I (who signed a decree fort it), enabled the city to acquire a Latin school, the first grammar school in Celje. With the help of archival analysis, an interview done with the current headmaster of the school and various literature regarding this topic, I was able to describe the establishment and development of the school, as well as how its name and curriculum changed under different regimes in the 20th century. In addition, I described the changes and reforms it faced that made it one of the best schools in Slovenia today. I decided to dedicate a small part of my thesis to the development of sports activities at the school as well.
