In this paper, the process of converting a conventional milling machine into a device with numerical control is described. The first part consists of theoretical principles about milling and milling machines and the main differences between manual and CNC milling machine components. The main part describes the process of the used manual milling machine selection, the design and manufacture of the required parts, and the purchase of standard parts. This is followed by the assembly of the mechanical and electrical components and the programming of the software. The drive mechanism of the machine is based on hybrid stepper motors controlled by LinuxCNC. The last part includes the final specifications of the machine, the production of the calibration piece on the rebuilt machine and the financial analysis of the whole project.
