Abstract

Title:Testing of electric vehicle supply equipment : visokošolski strokovni študijski program prve stopnje Aplikativna elektrotehnika
Abstract:
In this work, developing and testing of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) tester is presented. Electric vehicle chargers must comply with standards and safety regulations that these standards impose. Among correct charging behaviour, tester also checks charger's response to various errors that might occur, which are dangerous to humans or environment. With ever growing number of electric vehicles, we decided to develop and build tester for charging stations. The development of the tester took place in stages: communication, battery simulator, control circuit, user interface. Two different charging stations were used with our project: a high-end class EVSE that implements and verifies requirements and regulations. A low-cost one that performs bare minimum and ignores several fault conditions. We used different chargers mainly for comparing their responses and we could adapt the project development. During development, our tester was tested several times on public charging stations and adjusted/improved based on test results. Tester itself is not completed entirely, but we managed to complete: Measuring charging voltage and battery voltage, establish communication and control between electric vehicle (our tester) and charging station and monitoring parameters. For later work it is necessary to automate simulations/measurements and add current and voltage meters to the device, which are needed for an individual measurement or simulation.

Keywords:Charging station, electric vehicle, controller, communication, simulation, faults.
