Abstract

Title:Numerical and experimental modal analysis of a plate
Abstract:
Modal analysis is a tool for understaing dynamic properties of a system, such as natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping. Above all, it is important in the terms of functioning of products, because it is usually desired for them to operate as calmy as possible. We can achieve this by steering their operation away from the natural frequencies and that is why it is important to know them, because only in this way we can optimize the system. Dynamic strucutral response is directly connected with sound, which is even more important in the terms of instruments. As a part of the graduation thesis we undertook the study of a dynamic response of a cymbal. Using our own code in Mathematica, we numerically determined the dynamic response of a flat plate (square and round) and compared the results with those in the commercial program Ansys. For more accurate modeling of the cymbal, it was necessary to take into account the convexity of the cymbal, so we had to consider another type of finite elements - shells. This was the reason why we performed the modal analysis of the real model only in the commercial program Ansys and compared the results with the experimental ones, where a good match was shown.
