The thesis focuses on the research of the Carinthian plebiscite in 1920 from the perspective of Slovene and German newspapers published on Slovene ethnic territory. This thesis gives an insight into four different newspapers with different political background orientation – liberal Slovenski narod (1868‒1943) and Cillier Zeitung (1848, 1876‒1873, 1919‒1929) and conservative Slovenec (1873‒1945) and Kärntner Tagblatt (1893‒1938). Towards the end of the 19th century, the newspapers printed in German became increasingly more nationalist. The emphasis of the thesis will focus on the analysis of the articles published by selected newspapers from the signing of the Saint-Germain Peace Treaty on September 10, 1919, until the first impressions of the Carinthian plebiscite, carried out on October 10, 1920. Newspaper analyses will also be subjected to comparative analysis.
