Abstract
The notion of informatics itself already includes certain social aspect compared to the notion of computer science. More explicitly and much more extensively the social aspects are introduced by concept of social informatics, which evolved in 70s with increased computerization of society. At that time Rob Kling developed the fundamentals of what was emerging as a new academic discipline of social informatics. However, today the social informatics seems to move towards a much broader set of research fields. The paper explores this dynamics with three standardized observations (2006, 2008 and 2011), which systematically explored social informatics study programs, research centers, associations, publications, journals and events. The basic conclusion is that the activities related to the notion of social informatics are rapidly expanding, while at the same time the fragmentation, dispersions and non-standardization is also increasing.
