Abstract

Title:Modernism landscape
Abstract:
The focus of the degree paper is my drawing and painting artworks. Common to all of the artworks of the past few years is the motif of the Kozjansko region, which appears to be abstracted to some extent. I decided to dedicate my diploma research to this creative process because I felt I really found myself in it. The reading of the various sources hasn’t merely deepened my knowledge of modern art, but it has also opened up new opportunities for me in my creative process. I found certain parallels between my works and the works of artists such as Paul Cezanne, Richard Diebenkorn, and Pero Kirkeby. All three of them share the period of artistic creation, modernism, and the motif of the abstracted landscape. The goal of the degree paper thus became to minutely define their art movement, period, and artistic styles. Moreover, the research focuses on the general attitude towards landscape and nature during these movements and periods and on specific viewpoints that each of the authors held. Additionally, I defined key characteristics that seemed to have influenced each of the artist’s creative processes. I tried to reflect on the acquired knowledge through the analysis of their artworks, according to Muhovič (2018). I analysed one drawing and one painting per artist, as it seemed important to analyse their creative process in both of those techniques. The continuation of the paper compares the authors among themselves and later compares them to my artworks. I adapted that which seemed useful to my own creative process and merged it with the motif of the Kozjansko region. I chose seven drawings and three paintings among all of the artworks and separated them into three different sets based on motifs: “Gubno”, “Stari kozolec”, and “Kovačnica”.
