The aim of the master's thesis is to present and describe the usage of idioms in the German novel Der satanarchäolügenialkohöllische Wunschpunsch by the German writer Michael Ende and their translations into the Slovene by the translator Meta Ornik. The master`s thesis seeks to analyse the types of idioms in German and Slovene, at the semantic, pragmatic, and lexical level. Based on a comparison between the German source text and the Slovenian translation, different methods of translation procedures in the translation of idioms are analysed. The master's thesis is divided into the theoretical and empirical part. In the theoretical part, concepts such as phraseology, phraseological units, characteristics of phraseological units and their translation procedures, and translation of children's and youth literature are presented and explained. The empirical part first presents the author and the content of the novel, and then provides an analysis and comparison of concrete examples of phraseological units from the original into the target language.
