The present final work consists of two parts. The first part presents the Augustan army reform. The main change was the establishment of a professional army, which was no longer intended solely for military campaigns, but for the preservation of the military achievements of the empire and its defense. An important novelty was also the presence of military forces within the capital city of Rome. The Augustan army reform introduced the necessary formal changes that followed the military evolution of the largest empire at the time. This laid the foundation stone for the coming imperial army. The second part presents the presence of the Roman army in the early imperial period on today's Slovenian territory, which means for the period from the first emperor Augustus to Diocletian. The most important historical contexts are presented, as well as material remains that prove the presence of the Roman army on the territory of today's Slovenia and the nearest neighbourhood.
