Abstract
Uvod: Življenjska doba ljudi je vse daljša, predvsem zaradi izboljšanja življenjskih razmer, kar ima za posledico, da narašča število starejših odraslih. S staranjem pride do sprememb in okvar v živčno-mišičnem, mišično-skeletnem in senzoričnem sistemu, kar lahko vodi do težav pri nadzoru drže in posledično do padcev. Joga je oblika vadbe, ki vključuje vadbo duha in telesa. Joga se predvsem osredotoča na zavedanje sebe, energije, dihanja in mišične dejavnosti. Namen: Namen diplomskega dela je bil ugotoviti vpliv različnih oblik vadbe joge na izboljšanje ravnotežja pri starejših odraslih. Metode dela: Pri izdelavi diplomskega dela je bila uporabljena deskriptivna metoda dela. Iskanje člankov je potekalo prek podatkovnih zbirk PubMed in Cinahl. Iskanje literature je bilo omejeno na članke v angleškem jeziku, mlajše od 15 let. Pri iskanju smo uporabili naslednje ključne besede: joga, ravnotežje, telesna zmogljivost, starejši odrasli in starejši. Rezultati: V pregled literature smo po pregledu podatkovnih zbirk vključili osem raziskav, v katerih so ugotavljali vpliv različnih oblik vadbe joge na ravnotežje pri starejših odraslih. V petih raziskavah so poročali, da ima vadba joge pozitivne učinke na izboljšanje ravnotežja pri starejših odraslih. Razprava in zaključek: Glede na rezultate preglednih raziskav bi bila lahko vadba joge učinkovita metoda za izboljšanje ravnotežja pri starejših odraslih in bi jo lahko vključili v programe za izboljšanje ravnotežja. Na temelju rezultatov, ki smo jih vključili v pregled literature, naj bi vadba joge za izboljšanje ravnotežja trajala vsaj dve uri tedensko, ena izmed učinkovitih oblik joge glede na rezultate vključenih raziskav bi bila lahko Hatha joga, saj med seboj povezuje telesne položaje oziroma asane z dihalnimi tehnikami oziroma pranajamami. Joga se osredotoča tudi na duševno zdravje in počutje posameznika, kar je ena izmed prednosti v primerjavi z drugimi oblikami vadbe. V prihodnjih raziskavah bi bilo treba vključiti večje število preiskovancev, predvsem moških, ter med seboj primerjati različne oblike joge in trajanje vadbenih enot.

Title:Impact of yoga exercise on balance in older adults – literature review : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: People's life expectancy is increasing, mainly due to the improvement of living conditions, which consequences in increasing number of older adults. Aging related changes occur in the neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and sensory systems, which can lead to problems with posture control and consequent falls. Yoga is a form of exercise that involves a combination of mind and body exercise.Yoga mainly focuses on self-awareness, energy, breathing and muscle activation. Purpose: The aim of this diploma work was to determine the impact of different forms of yoga practice on improvement of balance in older adults. Methods: In the preparation of diploma work a descroptive method was used. The literature was searched in the PubMed and Cinahl database. Literature searches were limited to articles in English, not older than 15 years. The key words used were: yoga, balance, physical function, older adults, seniors. Results: In the literature review, we included eight studies that examined the impact of different forms of yoga practice on balance of older adults. Five studies have reported that practicing yoga has positive effects on the increase of balance in older adults. Discussion and conclusion: Based on the results, yoga practice could be an effective method to improve balance in older adults and could be included in balance improvement programs. Based on the results we have included in the review literature, yoga should be practiced at least two hours per week, to improve balance. The most effective form of yoga, according to the results, could be Hatha yoga, as it connects postures or asanas with breathing techniques or pranayama. Yoga also focuses on the mental health and well-being of the individual, which is one of the advantages by comparison to other forms of exercise. Future research should include the increase in the number of subjects, especially men, and compare the different forms of yoga and the duration of exercise units.
