Abstract

Title:Construction of wooden chair with thin metal connections
Abstract:
The aim of this BSc. thesis was to design and construct a wooden chair with innovative joint parts. We reviewed existing innovative joints used for chairs. The basic idea for the chair was designed using the SolidWorks platform, based on the principles of ergonomics and anthropometry. A prototype of chair was made and later tested at the laboratory for testing furniture. The test was conducted based on the standard SIST EN 12520:2010 Furniture – Strength, durability and safety – Requirements for domestic seating, and the results proved that the chair is suitable for domestic use. The results also showed that the SolidWorks platform is a suitable tool for designing and planning, and the innovative joints were easy to produce. However, during testing we faced problems with installation of the innovative joint parts because the glue between the wood and metal failed. The study shows that in some cases the innovative joint parts designed in this work could be used instead of classic wooden joints. The mass calculation in SolidWorks showed that the innovative joint parts are slightly lighter than classic wooden joints.
