Abstract
Pohodništvo je v Sloveniji ena izmed najbolj priljubljenih rekreativnih dejavnosti. Zanjo imamo namreč idealne pogoje in potrebujemo zelo malo opreme.

Title:
Hiking and well being of slovenians during the first wave of the covid-19 epidemic
Abstract:
Hiking is one of the most popular recreational activities in Slovenia. The conditions in Slovenia are excelent, people need very little equipment and every one can participate in this activity no matter their status. Also it only requires basic motor skills (e.g. walking). In Slovenia and also globally there is scarce research on the effects of hiking in various populations. Even less studies investigate the effects of the first wavev of the COVID-19 pandemic on hiking activity. Our goal was to get insight into how the pandemic and all corresponding limitations and other measures impacted the hiking activity of Slovenians. Considering that during hard times people are more prone to anxiety and fear, we also wanted to get some information about the psychological effects of the pandemic first wave. Fort his purpose we obtained data from two different periods, march-may 2020 and the same period in 2019 based on online questionare. We aimed to compare how hiking data from a virus free period in 2019 has changed during the first wave of the pandemic in 2020. The sample included 178 individuals above the age of 15 years. The survey that was used was uploaded to the 1KA (web based) platform. The questions inquired about how many times they went on a hike during the week, how long did the hike last and how much elevation people gained in one hike. Also additional questions regarding anxiety and fear in both periods were included. The obtained data indicates that only the group of high-school children reported more hiking activity during the pandemic wave, with similar activity observed in students and adults. The percentage of individuals that replied that they hike 3 or more times per week increased by 12 % during the pandemic. Also the majority of respondents reported higher levels of anxiety and fear during the first wave of the pandemic. But there were no statistically relevant differences between the groups. Physical activity is very importaint for our physical and mental well being and it can have a great effect on our quality of life. This research is one of few that gives insight into the hiking activity of Slovenians during the first wave of COVID-19. It shows Slovenians hiking parameters, how they changed during the pandemic and how the population mentaly reacted to the hardships of the pandemic.
