Abstract

Abstract:
The linguistic use of Slovene is changing considerably with the use of electronically mediated communication. In the last two decades of the widespread use of new technologies, different new expressions have emerged, changed, or became conventionalised, and at the same time users write texts in more than one language variety. The article presents two pieces of research which show that a significant influence on deviations from the standard language is caused by the social relationships (distance) between the interactants and by the specific medium, which dictates the textual characteristics and determinates the possibilities of multimodal use.

Keywords:Slovenian language, electronicaly-mediated communication, digital discourse, e-mail, interactivity
