Abstract

Abstract:
This article presents the importance of Slovene phonetics for knowledge of Slovene as a foreign language. The focus is on the student population, which is also the largest among the participants of the Seminar of Slovene language, literature in culture, even though most of the basic phonetic rules and instructions also apply to other speakers of Slovene. The phonetics of the standard language taught in the learning of a foreign language are, to a large extent, also alien to native speakers. Slovene is particularly interesting because of its more than 50 dialects (plus as yet undescribed urban variants and sociolects) and relatively small number of speakers.
