In accordance with their respective legal regimes and programme documents, both Slovenia and Italy are also bound to provide for Slovene language users in the Trieste, Gorizia and Udine areas. In addition to reviewing selected legal and programme documents, the paper presents the actual use, practices and attitudes of Slovene language users in Italy in a compact manner and on the basis of documented material, and draws attention to some topical issues regarding the public use of language and the presence of the Slovene language in different areas and to the needs of Slovene language users in this territory. In addition to using other sources, the data was obtained within the framework of a pan-Slovene online survey Languages in Slovenia and the Slovene Language Abroad (2017).
