Abstract

Title:The effect of ventilation on the concentration of total volatile organic compounds in indoor air of newly built and renovated building spaces
Abstract:
Volatile organic compounds (VOC) are released from certain building materials, furniture, paints, varnishes, and other products. In the test chambers, the concentration of total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) was monitored at different air change rates and temperature regimes for different combinations of building materials by using a photoionization detector. A higher air change contributes to a lower concentration of TVOC during the initial phase, but it does not affect a faster decrease in the TVOC concentration. It was found that gypsum board adsorbs volatile organic compounds.

Keywords:volatile organic compounds (VOC), total volatile organic compounds (TVOC), indoor air quality, photoionization detector (PID), ventilation, air change rate
